Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Four Dwellings Primary SchoolFour Dwellings Primary School is a vibrant, happy school where the children’s well-being and safety are at the heart of everything we do.

We have a curriculum that is enriched by as many first hand learning experiences that we can provide and also takes account of the children’s own interests and things they would like to find out about. Our work on curriculum development has been recognised locally and nationally.

All of our Year 4 pupils will learn to play a musical instrument and receive an hour tuition every week, free of charge. We teach French to the junior children and also take them swimming. Years 4 and 6 both have the opportunity of a residential trip.

Academic standards are very important to us and we aim that not a minute of learning time is lost during the school day. All children have regular homework and we expect that they work hard during lessons and complete all homework set.

Every class has an interactive whiteboard, all infant classes have 3 computers in their classroom, we have an IT suite with 30 PC’s and also 45 wireless netbooks for children to use at their desks.

At dinner times we employ a large team of supervisors and coaches, many of whom have worked at this school for many years, who ensure that the children are always positively occupied.

To combat bullying we have clear policies and action is always taken by senior member of staff if a child reports they have been bullied. We also work with the Quaker Education for Peace organisation who train all of our Year 5 children in conflict resolution. Year 5 and 6 peer mediators also work on the playgrounds.

This school also has a strong inclusive ethos and the dedicated staff team work hard to make sure that everyone is valued for the unique contribution they bring and to make sure that everyone’s needs are met. We are proud to be one of a handful of schools in Birmingham who have a gold award for this aspect of our work.

We offer a wide range of after school activities, for little or no charge, which are well attended and we also operate a small before and after school wrap around club for working parents.

We work very closely with parents and seek their views regularly. Every class organises parent workshops and the response to these is always positive. We also run Triple P courses within school and through our Children’s Centre along with many other support groups. Our family support workers, learning mentor and the parent support advisor are always ready to give advice or support for whatever reason it may be needed.

In September 2012 we should be moving into the brand new primary school building that is currently being constructed on our site (see artists impression above). We have been fully involved in the design of this innovative building and we are eagerly awaiting the improved facilities and learning opportunities it will bring.

If you would like to visit our school then please call and make an appointment, we would love to show you around.
